Museum of Witchcraft

Another fantastic historical visit during our holiday break…

I remember visiting the Museum of Witchcraft when I was a child and was keen to go back. It houses a huge collection of all sorts of witchcraft related items which continues to grow.

Two particularly interesting elements of the exhibition were:

Glass knitting needles with black wool knitting

Knitting was used as a way of spell making incantations. Glass needles were used to knit black wool whilst chanting the spell. When the spell was considered strong the knitting was taken off the needles and burnt.

I bought some glass needles whilst I was there, I shall give this a try!

Poppits

Poppits were dolls made in the image of a person and used to either cure a person of an illness but also could be used much like a voodoo doll.
