Silk paper

I have started to look at and experiment with hand made silk paper. I like the ability to add inclusions within it that remain semi covered and just visible.

I bought some silk cocoon strippings and initially made one sheet of very fine paper by spreading a thin layer of damp strippings between baking parchment, and then ironing. The Silk cocoon strippings contain silk gum (sericin) that when dampened act as a natural glue.

I then tried using them with CMC Tylose Powder Gum this is a powder that when mixed with water resembles wallpaper paste but is very safe, it is used in cake decoration as an edible glue.

Happy with these initial experiments I want to take these techniques and try creating a delicate bowl next.
